I just thought I’d post an update on what the Justice Team is up to this semester. The Point Justice Team is a group from the Point that focuses on justice through outreach in our neighbourhood, our city, and around the world. We tackle issues like homelessness, human trafficking, and poverty. Here are our projects this semester, organized by issue:
Laura Li has printed out Free Resource Cards listing places in Vancouver that offer free food, shelter, medical/dental, drug & alcohol addiction, ID replacement and victim services. If you would like to have some of these on hand to give out, feel free to talk to Laura or one of the Justice Team Members.
We will be partnering with several groups at SFU for a Non-Violence Awareness Event on Wednesday, November 20th, 12:30-1:20pm. Tara Teng will be speaking. Be sure to come out if you can make it! We will also be showing the documentary Rape for Profit (to raise awareness of sex trafficking) or Hope for The Sold on Sunday, November 24 at 7pm in Saywell Hall, room 10041. Here is a link to the trailer for those interested in watching it:
The Operation Christmas Child boxes are here!! Operation Christmas Child is a not-for-profit operation run by Samaritan’s Purse that delivers boxes filled with Christmas toys, school supplies. and other needed items to children around the world that otherwise would not have access to these things. The Point also runs the Metrobox program, which sends the boxes to children in need in Metro Vancouver. The Justice Team will be at a table in the A.Q. with the red and green shoe boxes on Monday, November 4th, and Tuesday, November 5th if you’d like to pick one up to fill up! These boxes (along with information pamphlets) are also available at Point Gathering and at the Interfaith Centre. See the Operation Christmas Child blog post for more information:
