The Point at the SFU Interfaith Centre started a partnership 8 years ago to put together boxes “METROBoxes” with supplies and toys for refugee families in Metro Vancouver. There is a dire need right here in our city. All the distribution is done through our partner Mosaic BC https://www.mosaicbc.org/ . This year they have indicated there is a particular need for many more boxes. We hoping to pack at least 250 boxes. If your unit or any students you are connected to would like to help us try reach that goal, that would be fantastic!
* What’s needed? Pack a box “shoebox size” or even better a large Tupperwar or plastic box full of goodies (the Tupperware is useful in itself)**. Specifically Mosaic is looking for, “toys for the kids, hygiene products are always an asset (tooth brush, toothpaste, soap etc), socks were a hit last year, winter wear for kids, hair accessories and school supplies.”. Please avoid toys associated with violence as many kids come from quite traumatic situations.
** We have “Tupperware” available for purchase from the front desk at the Interfaith centre (from 10 November), they include a METROBox instruction labels. A 6L box is $2.50 & a 9L box will be $3.50 or individuals can pack any shoe box or the like and drop it off at the centre with Sike (firstname.lastname@example.org) .
Timeline: The deadline is December 10th. It’s a great and simple way to help.
Return your boxes to a Point Gathering or Lifegroup, or drop them off at the Interfaith Centre by December 10 or at the High Street Christmas Lights event Nov 24 so we can get them to kids in time for Christmas!
