The Point Seminary Classes

Interested in doing Seminary classes, this summer The Point will offer 2 Classes, through The Point’s Leadership Centre.

The courses will run on Tuesday nights 7-9pm. June 5- July 3 “Old Testament Survey”. Then July 10 – Aug 4 “Spiritual Disciplines”. More information will follow soon, in the mean time, please contact with the contact link if you are interested, space is limited.

Volunteers for Summer Clubs Days

Hey Everyone! SFU clubs days is quickly approaching for the summer semester and we are looking for volunteers to greet people at the Point’s table. The dates are Tuesday and Wednesday May 15th and 16th and we will need help between 9:30am and 3:30pm on both days. This is a great opportunity to connect with the SFU student community. Hey everyone!

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the University Highlands Elementary’s Green Community Carnival. It will be held on Saturday April 5, 2012 at University Highlands Elementary School on Burnaby Mountain from 10:00am-4:00pm. This is a great opportunity to love and serve the Burnaby Mountain community. Plenty of help is needed for set up and take down as well running children’s games and supervising bouncy castles. We are so grateful for how God has provided new space and resources for our Sunday worship experience. All of you who have been out to The Point recently know that we have made some significant upgrades to our gathering space, which is now in Saywell Hall 10041. These upgrades themselves do not receive worship, but they help us foster an environment that brings our attention and our worship to Jesus alone. We are grateful for how He provides, and we want to honor Him in how we use these resources.

With more to set up and take down over the weekend, it’s now necessary for The Point to have a team dedicated to serving the church in this way. Sometimes our worship through serving is behind the scenes, but that does not mean it’s unimportant. Paul wrote, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Col. 3:23). The set up for Sunday is crucial to how we minister to our church community and those visiting with us. We want to be a church that does things well. When God created the earth, He saw that “it was good”, not just okay.

If you are looking for ways to be involved in serving our community at The Point, this is an excellent way to connect with new people and give creative input to our Sunday gatherings.

What: Make a difference, come distribute socks in the DTES

When: 2pm, 6 April 2012.

Where: Meet at the Woodwards Atrium (in front of Nesters)

Bring: Pairs of Socks (we have a box full if you dont have)

Who: You are invited and so are your friends!

2. Good Friday Gathering

What: Come join as we reflect, sing, watch (The Passion) & Partake (in communion). These have been some of the most special gatherings each year.

Passion Vancouver | Tomorrow March 23, 2012!

PASSION VANCOUVER IS TOMORROW!

Tomorrow we will all be gathered together in Rogers Arena! The thousands of university students who attended Passion 2012 in Atlanta have been praying for this gathering of our generation here in Vancouver. We’re so excited and expectant for what God will do during our time together. If you would like to transit down with The Point, sign up here, or just show up at the Cornerstone Bus Loop as 4:15PM or 4:30 PM. We want to sit as close together as possible! Doors open at 6:30PM!

Tickets are still available, so encourage your friends to get theirs right away. Based on availability, tickets can be purchased for $15 at the Passion Vancouver box office, located at Gate 3, beginning Friday at 4pm. Cash and credit card will be accepted. Please be aware that we are unable to process Interac Debit cards.

Relay for Life

It is that time of the year again! SFU will be hosting its 4th annual Relay For Life event on March 23, 2012!

We, as The Point, provide the coffee (caffeine) support through the night to keep The Relay running. This is something we have done for the past 3 years and we want to keep it up. However we need your help. If you can volunteer an hour or even less (or more) to run the table that will be wonderful. Sign up here on this online signup. Let’s fill it.

“Relay for Life is the biggest fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, and is a 12-hour Relay in which team members take turns walking or running around a track in order to raise money for cancer research, prevention and cancer support.

Last year was an overwhelming accomplishment; the goal was $35,000 and we blew that number out of the water by raising over $41, 000!!!”

Baptismal Service & Potluck This Sunday

Well we are well into another week at The Point. Last Sunday was such a wonderful day of worship. This coming Sunday is going to be even more special; two members of The Point are getting Baptized!

Because of this exciting event we will be having a combined morning gathering this Sunday, March 18 and an informal evening gathering at the SFU Pool. Yes, that is correct, we will be having our evening service at the pool where we will get to watch two members of our family take this next step in their faith. We will first be meeting in the International Lounge (AQ 2013) at 4:30PM before we all walk to the pool for service at 5:00PM.

Please bring some food for a potluck celebration following the service. Drop off the food at the International Lounge (AQ 2013) by 4:30PM before we walk to the pool.

I encourage everyone to come out and show you support and hear the testimonies of those being Baptized. And if you would like information on being Baptized this Sunday, please email us via the “Contact Us” tab.
